PITTSBURG, Texas — Marvin Nichols Reservoir is on the agenda for next week’s meeting of the Region D Water Planning Group.

Region D includes Northeast Texas, where the proposed reservoir would be created by damming the Sulphur River. Most of the water in Marvin Nichols Reservoir would be pumped to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, in Water Planning Region C.

Recently, at the direction of the Texas Legislature, the Texas Water Development Board published a draft report on the feasibility of the reservoir and invited public comments.

According to a Region D news release, Region C officials are expected to attend the Region D meeting on Oct. 30 “to hear firsthand from Northeast Texas residents about the impact of Marvin Nichols.”

The meeting will include a presentation by a Region D technical consultant on Marvin Nichols Reservoir, a discussion and comments from Region C, a discussion and comments from Region D, and a public comments period in which five minutes for each speaker will be allowed.

The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Region 8 Education Service Center, 4845 U.S. Hwy. 271 N.

“All Northeast Texas residents concerned about Marvin Nichols are invited to come speak about how the proposed reservoir would impact them,” the release stated.
